Genuine care and long-lasting change begin here.
Art therapy engages the mind, body, and spirit in ways that are different from verbal articulation alone. Kinesthetic, sensory, perceptional, and symbolic opportunities invite alternative modes of receptive and expressive communication, which can circumvent the limitations of language. (AATA, 2017).
Art therapy helps individuals to find time in the moment and focus on experiencing presenting emotions and distress. Art therapy can help to be a mode of meditation in a safe environment to help process thoughts and emotions without a pressure to only verbalize their experiences.
You do not have to be Picasso or even familiar with art to benefit from art therapy. Through different modalities, led by your therapist, you can learn to still the chaos in your mind, practice being present, and unlock parts of your mind or thoughts that traditional talk therapy may have yet to uncover.
