Hello! My name is Avery Lewis. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and a 2020 graduate of Siena Heights University, where I earned my M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Here at Liberty, I work with individuals ages 5+, but my greatest joy and talent is counseling children through the dynamic modality of play therapy.
I work with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing challenges such as: depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, abuse, self-esteem struggles, PTSD, gender identity/sexuality issues, self-harm, suicidal ideation, crisis circumstances, and relationship issues. I incorporate cognitive behavioral therapy and play therapy interventions as well as utilize reality orientation and resilience training to provide genuine and effective care for my clients.
Prior to coming to private practice, I worked as a children’s therapist in community mental health and as a technician on an inpatient psychiatric unit, where I taught therapeutic groups and developed my skills in de-escalation and crisis intervention.
I strive to incorporate inclusivity, empathy, education, and empowerment into my therapeutic work. My motto for the clients I am privileged to work with is "Come as you are."
Avery Lewis, M.A. L.P.C. Liberty Mental Health.
