Genuine care and long-lasting change begin here.
My name is Ashlyn Miller, and I am a counselor intern with a specialization
in art therapy. I find the practice of art therapy to be a versatile tool to help manage an
array of symptoms and distress in a way that does not always require speaking. If it is
not time to talk about something, but you do want to overcome the distress or begin to
change your mindset, we can find ways to make art about it. Art can be a powerful tool capable of manifesting dreams and confronting nightmares. You don’t have to be a Picasso or experienced with art to benefit from art therapy. Sometimes, the process of art making can be enough.
I also have an interest in existential-humanistic and solution- focused theories. Existential-humanistic theory considers the responsibility, freedom, and ability to accept consequences that are inherently part of the human experience. Solution-focused theory considers techniques that can be used in brief therapy that curate goals and objectives specifically for addressing client issues. I work well with an array of ages and have strong values in cultural competence. I have experience in helping individuals work through anxiety, depression, grief, as well as managing
symptoms of ADHD and disordered eating. From my perspective, the counseling process
is always meant to be a holistic experience completely curated to helping the participant
find ways to help themselves. Together we can explore avenues to address whatever is
needed; improve time-management, increase motivation/empowerment, work through
nightmare distress and more. I will continue to work under supervision until I have the
opportunity to apply for my licensure this coming fall; I plan to achieve my ATR-BC as
well as my LPC.
