Genuine care and long-lasting change begin here.
As a counselor and art therapist, I believe in the healing potential of creative expression. In therapy, engaging in mindful artmaking can help to process and express inner experiences or to communicate when words are not enough. I’ve witnessed artmaking serve as a powerful tool to process grief and loss, to create meaning through storytelling, and to assist clients in gaining personal clarity.
I take a client-centered approach to therapy and adapt my treatment modality to a client’s individual goals and preferences. I pair art therapy with evidence-based practices like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and utilize traditional talk therapy with art therapy depending on a client’s needs and comfort level. No experience is required to engage in art therapy, and if a client has no interest in artmaking, that’s ok, too.
I view wellness as holistic; and mental health is one aspect of a person’s wellbeing. It’s my goal to help my client to achieve balance in all areas of their life- physically, mentally, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. Together, we can explore how thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact and see where changes can improve concerns and ensure clients are living in alignment with their values.
People seek therapy for a variety of reasons and making that first appointment can be a challenging step. I strive to provide a safe and nonjudgmental space for clients to be able to freely express themselves and feel supported.
I’m committed to providing ethical, sensitive services to individuals of any age, culture, ethnic or racial background, socioeconomic status, orientation, and gender identity/expression. I have experience treating anxiety, depression, PTSD, adjustment, and academic concerns, eating disorders, and body image issues.
I look forward to working with you,
-Kat
