Celebrating 5 Years of Serving our Community ~ Est. July 2020
My name is Kayla. I earned a B.S. in Psychology from Michigan State University, where I was also a member of the Cross Country and Track team. During my time there, I worked in the MSU Twin Registry research lab, focusing on parenting styles and the development of antisocial behavior in adolescent twins. I completed University of Michigan’s MSW program and finished my fieldwork at LACASA supporting children navigating divorce, family shifts, anxiety, depression, and trauma. Since graduating, I’ve worked in community mental health centers, advocacy organizations, and early childhood classrooms—experiences that have shaped my holistic and developmentally sensitive approach to care. With younger clients, I often incorporate art and play-based methods to provide therapy that is accessible and expressive. I also draw from evidence-based practices such as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), CBT, and Child Centered Play Therapy (CCPT). My approach acknowledges and celebrates that each child has unique needs, skills, and ways of expressing themselves.
I also enjoy working with adults, particularly women navigating relationships, anxiety, depression, or life changes. I appreciate working with teachers, school professionals, and nurses. I understand the emotional toll and stress that can come with supporting young people in educational settings, and I offer a space where educators can process their own experiences, prioritize self-care,
and build authentic joy in their work.
A little about me:
-I have two kitties named Gypsy and Comet
-I love caring for my (possibly too many) houseplants
-I value creativity and unique ways to express yourself
-I have lived in many places, including Hawaii and Colorado
